How Does Your Workplace Define Authenticity?
I have a question: What does authenticity mean to you?
Depending on where you grew up, the culture you grew up in, your age, gender, life experiences, and other factors, you’re probably going to have a unique understanding of what it means to be authentic.
Because of this, we know that some folk’s idea of authenticity may be entirely different from what their leadership suggests when they say things like. “We want you to bring your whole authentic self to work.”
In order to foster equitable authenticity in our workplaces, we have to investigate how we define authenticity and ask ourselves:
What do we deem as authentic?
What type of authenticity do we value?
Does this definition of authenticity allow folks to be valued across spectrums of identity and culture?
Reflecting on this can bring up a lot of questions about how to engage in fostering authentic spaces, especially for TGX+ communities in our workplaces.
Here’s some good news: I’ve got you covered.
You’re invited to join me and an incredible group of DEI, HR, and ERG leaders for our monthly virtual TGX+ Inclusion Roundtable. Once you register, you’ll be invited to submit any TGX+ inclusion questions, and we’ll cover them together during the session! Together, we can build better organizations.
