Why Is Building Community Important to TGX+ Inclusion?

How does building community support TGX+ inclusion?

For many folks advancing TGX+ inclusion in their organizations, it can be difficult to find colleagues to regularly discuss these efforts with. However, having a community of trusted colleagues to discuss the nuances of TGX+ inclusion with is vital to supporting our journeys in this realm.

Not only is developing community a tenet within most DEI initiatives, but it also allows a greater opportunity to foster trust, gain perspective, and build resilience within our organizations.

And there are all sorts of ways to help build better communities for TGX+ folks, even outside of the workplace. As the National Center for Transgender Equality points out:

“Show up in your community. School board meetings, library councils, parent-teacher associations, volunteer groups — all of these can have an enormous impact on the everyday lives of trans people. Recently, schools and libraries have come under attack even just for acknowledging that transgender people exist. In these spaces, making it clear that you support trans people can be enormously impactful.”

If you’d like to learn more about how you can help build community support for trans people, join our monthly TGX+ Inclusion Roundtable. As we kick off the new year, I want to help you start strong by building community with other DEI, HR, & ERG leaders who are navigating similar landscapes.
