How Will You Support Your TGX+ Employees This Year?

Happy New Year!

As you kick off 2024, I know you’re considering how to strategize and build momentum for your DEI initiatives, so you may be asking yourself:

How will I show up for my TGX+ employees and colleagues in 2024?

With 125 anti-trans bills having already been proposed this year, compared to 50 anti-trans bills by this time last year, we know it will be another difficult year of harmful legislation for TGX+ communities.

Knowing this, one of the key themes in 2024 for TGX+ inclusion is preparation. Leaders must prepare themselves and their organizations for the challenges that are to come amidst this climate.

So, where do you start?

The first step is acknowledgment. With an increase in anti-trans legislation, many TGX+ employees have increased anxiety both at work and in their everyday lives. Considering how much time we spend in our workplaces, our organizations are one of the most important places to build a sense of belonging.

When organizations don’t acknowledge the impact of anti-trans legislation, it sends a message to TGX+ employees that they don’t matter and aren’t being considered. And this inevitably creates tension, division, and other adverse organizational outcomes.

However, when organizations do acknowledge these realities, it opens up opportunities for connection and support. This includes opportunities to learn what your employees need from your organization to feel psychologically safe at work, which research shows is linked to a growing number of positive organizational outcomes.

Preparing your TGX+ inclusion efforts will allow you to make a maximum impact on your TGX+ employees and ongoing initiatives.

To help you prepare, I’ve created a 2024 TGX+ Awareness Days Calendar to make sure you have all your TGX+ awareness days and months in one place.

You can plan initiatives around these days or beyond them. Either way, this blueprint will help you map out important dates as you consider how to show up for your TGX+ employees this year.

And as always, you’re invited to join our monthly TGX+ Inclusion Roundtable for HR, DEI, and ERG leaders to learn more about how you can support your TGX+ employees.
